"The Last" Update- 6-11-18
Welcome to our classroom website. Please feel free to explore the links above to learn more about our classroom and grade level. This site will be updated weekly to keep parents, students and visitors informed of what is happening in our
Reading this Summer!
At this point in the year, students have been tested to find their current, end of the year reading abilities. We finished all of our individual reading assessments last week and more information will be on your child’s report card which will be mailed to all parents in late June.
After looking at our reading test results, all of the students in our class made great progress this year but I am encouraging students to keep reading over summer. Many students lose reading abilities over the summer because they do not continue reading and writing. During the summer, students need to find appropriate books in a variety of areas for practice. Students are encouraged to find and read daily books from their home library and the public library. Our school’s computer based/internet programs like LEXIA, RAZ Kids and MOBY MAX Reading are also still available for students to use at home or the public library if you do not have technology available. Please encourage your child by guiding them in this summer, reading process. Thanks for your summer, reading support!
Math News-Math Test Results and Summer Practice!
Last week, we finished the last of our semester math lessons and tests for those lessons. These lessons/tests will be coming home with your child’s work sample information on June 18th. Please make sure you look at your child’s test results to see their strengths and weaknesses in our math areas. With this information, you can better help your child practice this summer and improve their overall math skills so that they are ready for third grade next year! Remember that MOBY Max is still available and will work all summer for extra math practice if students have computer/internet access either at home or the public library. Thanks for your summer, math support!
Insect/Plant Learning is Finished!
This week we are finishing our learning unit on insects and plants. We will be finishing our insect journals by the end of the week. Completed insect activities and journals will be coming home next week on June 18th. These activities will be a part of each student’s work samples so that you can see all of their wonderful insect and plant work!
Writing News-Informational Writing- Partner Insect Reports
Last week we worked on our partner, insect reports. This week we are finishing our insect reports by typing them up digitally using our classroom Chromebooks. All of our informational writing samples will be coming home with your child’s work samples on next Monday, June 18th.
Train Ride To the Lewis River!
Our second grade classes will be going on a Chelatchie Prairie train ride on this Thursday, June 14, 2018. This will be a fun time as we ride the train down to Moulton Falls. We will be leaving our school starting at 10:15 on June 14th and returning around 1:15 PM. Students need to bring a disposable sack lunch and if they can’t, then one can be ordered from our cafeteria for regular, lunch price. Thanks!
Final Thoughts from Mr. Webberley!
The school year is almost over and I wanted to thank all parents for letting me teach your child this year! It has been a great year and I wish everyone a happy and relaxing summer. Remember to encourage your child to keep reading, writing and doing math activities this summer as it will make starting third grade in the fall a little easier. Once again thanks and have a great summer everyone!
